Club Car DS Maintenance

Club Car DS Maintenance Guide

The Club Car DS is a classic – a hugely popular golf buggy known for its aluminium frame, which resists the rust that affects steel-framed buggies. This guide covers the routine maintenance that keeps a DS going for decades, in both electric and petrol forms.

The DS is exceptionally well documented, and we hold its owner's manual, full service manual and illustrated parts list. Looking after the batteries (electric) or engine (petrol), plus the usual cleaning and tyre checks, is most of the job.

We service, repair and source parts for the DS and any other make and model.

Routine Care & Maintenance

Batteries & charging

How you look after the batteries makes the biggest difference to an electric buggy's life. If you have a lithium (LiFePO4) pack it's virtually maintenance-free – charge when convenient, partial charges are fine. For lead-acid batteries: charge after every use, avoid deep discharges, keep the water above the plates (top up with distilled water after charging), keep the tops clean, and always charge in a well-ventilated space away from sparks or flames.

Everyday care & cleaning

Tyres

Check pressures regularly and take care inflating – these small tyres fill fast and over-inflate easily. Keep pressures even across the buggy for stable handling.

Lithium Upgrade

Many Club Car DS owners upgrade from lead-acid to a lithium pack for lighter weight, faster charging and near zero maintenance. We carry out lithium conversions – see our Lithium Battery Upgrades page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Club Car DS aluminium frame a big deal?
Unlike steel-framed buggies, the DS's aluminium frame doesn't rust, which is a major reason so many are still on the road. It's worth keeping the frame clean and checking fixings all the same.
Do you have a parts manual for the DS?
Yes – we hold the Club Car DS Illustrated Parts List, the Maintenance & Service Manual and the Owner's Manual, all available to download below.
Can a DS be upgraded to lithium?
Yes – the DS is a common lithium conversion. It saves weight and removes battery watering. See our Lithium Battery Upgrades page.
