EZGO MPT Maintenance

EZGO MPT Maintenance Guide

The EZGO MPT (Multi-Purpose Truck, also sold as the ST/Workhorse family) is the utility workhorse of the EZGO range – a flatbed/cargo buggy built for estates, grounds and commercial sites. This guide covers the routine upkeep that keeps an MPT hauling reliably.

Available in electric (48V) and petrol forms, the MPT shares much of its running gear with the TXT, so the same battery, charging and engine care applies – with extra attention to the cargo bed, suspension and tyres given the loads it carries.

We service, repair and source parts for the MPT and any other make and model – get in touch if you'd like us to look after yours.

Routine Care & Maintenance

Batteries & charging

How you look after the batteries makes the biggest difference to an electric buggy's life. If you have a lithium (LiFePO4) pack it's virtually maintenance-free – charge when convenient, partial charges are fine. For lead-acid batteries: charge after every use, avoid deep discharges, keep the water above the plates (top up with distilled water after charging), keep the tops clean, and always charge in a well-ventilated space away from sparks or flames.

Everyday care & cleaning

Tyres

Check pressures regularly and take care inflating – these small tyres fill fast and over-inflate easily. Keep pressures even across the buggy for stable handling.

Lithium Upgrade

Many EZGO MPT owners upgrade from lead-acid to a lithium pack for lighter weight, faster charging and near zero maintenance. We carry out lithium conversions – see our Lithium Battery Upgrades page.

Common Issues

SymptomPossible causeWhat to do
Poor range / sluggish under load Weak or ageing batteries Charge fully, load test; replace weak batteries or upgrade to lithium.
Vehicle will not move Key off / no direction, discharged batteries, loose connections Check key, direction, charge and connections.
Noise or sag at the rear Suspension wear from heavy loads Have the rear suspension and bushes inspected.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MPT feels sluggish under load – is that normal?
Carrying heavy loads will reduce range and performance, especially on hills. If it's unusually sluggish, check battery charge and condition first; a lithium upgrade noticeably improves loaded performance.
How do I look after the cargo bed?
Keep it clear of standing water and corrosive materials, and check the tailgate and bed fixings periodically. Rinse out after carrying soil, sand or chemicals.
Can the MPT be upgraded to lithium?
Yes – and it's a strong candidate given the loads it carries. Lithium holds voltage better under load and removes battery watering. See our Lithium Battery Upgrades page.
