The Cushman Hauler is a utility truck built for work – a tough cargo buggy used on estates, farms and commercial sites. This guide covers routine maintenance for the Hauler range (800, 800X, 1200 and the ELiTE lithium models).
Electric Haulers run a 48V system with programmable regenerative braking and a roto-molded cargo bed that lifts for powertrain access; ELiTE models use a maintenance-free lithium powertrain. Looking after the batteries, bed and tyres keeps a Hauler working hard.
We service, repair and source parts for the whole Hauler range, and can convert older lead-acid models to lithium.
| Power options | 48V lead-acid, ELiTE lithium, or 13.5 hp petrol |
|---|---|
| Type | Utility truck with lifting cargo bed |
| Motor | 48V DC shunt-wound |
| Batteries | 6× 8V deep-cycle (48V), or ELiTE lithium |
| Braking | Programmable regenerative, anti-roll back, walkaway |
| Cargo bed | Roto-molded polyethylene, lifts for powertrain access |
How you look after the batteries makes the biggest difference to an electric buggy's life. If you have a lithium (LiFePO4) pack it's virtually maintenance-free – charge when convenient, partial charges are fine. For lead-acid batteries: charge after every use, avoid deep discharges, keep the water above the plates (top up with distilled water after charging), keep the tops clean, and always charge in a well-ventilated space away from sparks or flames.
Check pressures regularly and take care inflating – these small tyres fill fast and over-inflate easily. Keep pressures even across the buggy for stable handling.
Many Cushman Hauler owners upgrade from lead-acid to a lithium pack for lighter weight, faster charging and near zero maintenance. We carry out lithium conversions – see our Lithium Battery Upgrades page.
| Symptom | Possible cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Poor range / sluggish under load | Weak or ageing batteries | Charge fully and load test; replace weak batteries or upgrade to ELiTE lithium. |
| Vehicle will not move | Key off / no direction, discharged batteries, loose connections | Check key, direction, charge and connections. |
| Charger lockout active | Vehicle charger lockout engaged | Ensure the charger is disconnected before driving; check the lockout per the manual. |
