Yamaha Drive2 Maintenance

Yamaha Drive2 Maintenance Guide

The Yamaha Drive2 is Yamaha's current-generation golf buggy – refined, quiet and available with an efficient AC electric drivetrain or the QuieTech EFI petrol engine. This guide covers the routine maintenance that keeps a Drive2 at its best.

The electric Drive2 uses an AC drivetrain (typically six 8-volt deep-cycle batteries), while the QuieTech EFI petrol model is known for being exceptionally quiet. Battery or engine care, plus the usual cleaning and tyres, covers most owner maintenance.

We service, repair and source parts for the Drive2 and any other make and model – just ask.

Routine Care & Maintenance

Batteries & charging

How you look after the batteries makes the biggest difference to an electric buggy's life. If you have a lithium (LiFePO4) pack it's virtually maintenance-free – charge when convenient, partial charges are fine. For lead-acid batteries: charge after every use, avoid deep discharges, keep the water above the plates (top up with distilled water after charging), keep the tops clean, and always charge in a well-ventilated space away from sparks or flames.

Everyday care & cleaning

Tyres

Check pressures regularly and take care inflating – these small tyres fill fast and over-inflate easily. Keep pressures even across the buggy for stable handling.

Lithium Upgrade

Many Yamaha Drive2 owners upgrade from lead-acid to a lithium pack for lighter weight, faster charging and near zero maintenance. We carry out lithium conversions – see our Lithium Battery Upgrades page.

Common Issues

Frequently Asked Questions

What batteries does the electric Drive2 use?
Typically six 8-volt deep-cycle batteries (Trojan T-875 or similar) for a 48V system, unless upgraded to lithium. Keep them charged and watered, or go lithium to remove the watering.
Why is the QuieTech petrol Drive2 so quiet?
Its EFI engine and sound insulation make it one of the quietest petrol buggies available – close to electric in noise. It still needs regular oil, filter and spark plug care.
Can the Drive2 be upgraded to lithium?
The electric Drive2 can be converted to lithium for lighter weight, faster charging and no watering. Talk to us about an upgrade.
